Nicole Kidman Happy to Be 'Sexual Being' at 57 in Erotic New Role
Nicole Kidman comes here for magic. Since the 1990s, Kidman has been dazzling moviegoers with her beauty, charm, and intelligence. And if you’re a man of a certain age, she was almost certainly one of your first movie crushes thanks to classics like Far and Away, and Days of Thunder. And, no matter what anyone says, Batman Forever is a masterpiece. (We will go to the mat on that one!)
On Christmas Day this year, Kidman will star in a new A24 film called Babygirl. In it, she plays a married woman named Romy who engages in a steamy affair with a much younger man, an intern named Samuel (Harris Dickinson). Because Samuel is Romy’s subordinate in the movie, Kidman’s role is flipping the script on some sex stereotypes in cinema, which is something she said she’s thrilled to explore.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman said that the new role felt “dangerous.” She also said that she loved the fact that the role was specifically written for a woman over the age of 40. “It wasn’t written for a 20-year-old. It wasn’t written even for a 30-year-old,” Kidman said. “A lot of times women are discarded at a certain period of their career as a sexual being. So it was really beautiful to be seen in this way. From the minute I read it, I was like, ‘Yeah, this is a voice I haven’t seen, this is a place that I haven’t been, I don’t think audiences have been.’”

Kidman also made it clear that she was aware that in current internet-speak, the term “babygirl” tends to apply to attractive men, not women. And yet, her own husband, Keith Urban does refer to her as “babygirl” very often.
“‘Babygir’l is something that Keith has always used for me,” Kidman said. “That is separate. That stays in a separate compartment…but, when I read [the script]...I thought it I thought it was incredibly sexy. Really just so raw and dangerous, and I couldn’t believe they were giving us the money to make it.”
Clearly, whether or not Babygirl is a hit or not, Nicole Kidman isn’t done making interesting movies. Hopefully, if anything, this new project is proof that actually, she’s just getting started.
