Travis Kelce Admits ‘I Didn’t Play My Best’ in Controversial Game
On the most recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce admitted to co-host and brother Jason Kelce that losing the first game of the season “pisses me off.” The Chiefs suffered a 21–30 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 17.
Travis admitted that he was “fired up for this” game, but, “I didn’t play my best.” He continued: “And that s--t, it pisses me off, and it made me, you know, go right back into work on Monday after the game and get after it and find a way to make s--t right."
The tight end told fans not to expect that level of performance in the future. "I think this is something that you won't see out of us in the future. A lot of this s--t is very fixable and I've got all the faith in the world in this team."
Jason then read aloud remarks coach Andy Reid told the team following the game. "This should hurt…You can't just say everything's going to be okay…You have to check the ego at the door and do some self eval."
Travis explained what he believed to be the meaning behind Reid’s remarks. "I don't give a f--k how your body's feeling. I don't give a f--k where your mentality is off the field. When you step in that building, we are here to figure s--t out, and we are here to get better as football players for the football team." Travis went on to admit he’s "got to be the leader that I've been in the past" for the rest of this season, which means he has to "hold myself accountable" as one of the team’s veteran members.
