John Stamos Posts Tribute Amid Dave Coulier's Cancer Diagnosis
John Stamos posted a message of support to his longtime friend and Full House costar Dave Coulier in the wake of his cancer diagnosis. On Wednesday, Coulier revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma just over a month ago.
Stamos and Coulier have known each other for nearly 40 years, having starred on the family-friendly ABC sitcom from 1987 through 1995. In the Instagram tribute, the 61-year-old posted a range of photos and video of the two from throughout the years, including one where each was wearing "I love Jesse" and "I love Joey" t-shirts, in a nod to their onscreen characters. In one, they appeared alongside their late costar Bob Saget, who passed away following an accident in January 2022.
"My brother from day one. Love you [Dave Coulier] and I’ll be by your side through it all," Stamos captioned the gallery.
Coulier opened up about his diagnosis to People, and said that he was diagnosed in October after he came with an upper respiratory infection that caused severe swelling in his lymph nodes. It was only after a round of PET and CT scans that doctors learned what was wrong with him.
"Three days later, my doctors called me back and they said, ‘We wish we had better news for you, but you have non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and it's called B cell and it's very aggressive,'" Coulier explained. "I went from, I got a little bit of a head cold to I have cancer, and it was pretty overwhelming. This has been a really fast roller coaster ride of a journey."
He also revealed that he had already told his Full House family about his diagnosis, including Stamos, Jodie Sweetin, Lori Loughlin, Candace Cameron Bure, and Andrea Barber.
"I didn’t want them to hear it from someone else, so I sent a text message out,” he said, noting that he got an "immediate" response from his former costars.
"It was just this outpouring of, 'I will be there. You just name the time, and I know you're in great hands with [wife Melissa Bring Coulier], but what can we do?’ It really is overwhelming the love that we have for each other. We've been there for so many years for each other and it's pretty remarkable."
However, there is some good news, in that test results of Coulier's bone marrow showed no traces of cancer. "At that point, my chances of curable went from something low to 90 percent range. And so that was a great day," he said.
