Former ‘Deadpool’ Star Walks Back Controversial Ryan Reynolds Remarks
Former Deadpool actor T.J. Miller, who played Weasel in the first two installments of the superhero franchise, has reversed some controversial opinions he recently voiced about star Ryan Reynolds.
Miller previously said on The Adam Carolla Show (via The Independent) in October 2022 that he would not work with Reynolds again following their experience on Deadpool 2. “Would I work with him again? No, I would not work with him again,” the Silicon Valley star said. “We had a really weird moment on Deadpool where he said, ‘Let’s do one more take.’ And then as the character, he was horrifically mean to me as if I’m Weasel.”
Miller reiterated the remarks in August on the Help! With Natalie Cuomo podcast. "When something becomes super successful, people get really famous and things get really weird—that's what happened from Deadpool 1 to Deadpool 2," Miller said. "Deadpool was a real long shot for him and so Deadpool 2 he was a different person…You first had Ryan Reynolds, everyone knew who he was but he had a lot of movies that were failures or just didn't do that well,” he said. “That's just a different guy. A guy that's become that famous in a movie that is that funny, it just changes people."
But Miller seemingly reversed his stance during an interview earlier this week with SiriusXM’s The Bonfire. "We talked a little while ago," Miller said of Reynolds, adding that he would be open to returning to the Deadpool franchise if asked. "I think him asking me, I think he's just been such a good friend right now that I think it would be really, I think that would be awesome," Miller said.
Miller did not return for this summer’s Deadpool & Wolverine after being accused of sexual assault, facing charges for making a fake bomb threat, and generally erratic on-set behavior in the years since Deadpool 2’s release. He denied the sexual assault allegations, and the federal charges for making a fake bomb threat were dropped.
Although Deadpool & Wolverine surpassed Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, a fourth Deadpool has yet to be announced. Miller’s last on-screen role was a supporting turn in 2020’s The Stand-In.
