First 'Fantastic Four' Teaser Confirms Surprising Alternate Timeline
Marvel has shared the first video peek at its upcoming The Fantastic Four: First Steps movie.
The highly anticipated return to the big screen for The Four comes with big expectations after the last two film iterations did not garner the expected love for a large Marvel movie.
The quick first-look video teaser does not share too much, the full trailer will hit tomorrow February 4. The footage shows kids in a 1960s setting, rushing on the street to get to a crowd gathered in front of a store window that’s housing television sets, about to show the Fantastic Four getting launched into space. The crew can be seen quickly wearing white and blue space suits in the top right corner, and text in the center says “Prepare 4 Launch.”
First Steps will feature the comics run’s Future Foundation, an organization that prepares the planet for future problems, in the clip’s description reading, “The Future Foundations invites you to take you first steps into a fantastic new era.”

As this teaser confirms, the new movie is to be set in an alternate timeline from the main MCU within that multiverse. It will be a 1960s period piece, which can be seen from the short video as the city pictured looks to be set in many decades past. But, in real life, we didn't launch any rocketships that looked like that in the 1960s. Plus, no previous MCU movies have mentioned an alternate history of spaceflight, which suggests that this movie will perhaps be set in a new Marvel timeline. Maybe.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as the villain Galactus.
