Bill Burr Blasts NFL After Chiefs' Championship Win
The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl for a chance at a historic three-peat, but don't count Bill Burr among those football fans excited to watch.
On Jan. 27, the comedian stopped by The Rich Eisen Show and discussed his current views on the NFL as a whole and the Chiefs' recent hot streak that took them all the way to victory in the AFC Championship. More than anything, Burr lamented that quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been able to dominate the league because he doesn't have a worthy foil.
"It's a business," he said. "The problem with the Chiefs is Patrick Mahomes doesn't have a dance partner. Well, you had [Terry] Bradshaw–[Roger] Staubach, you had [Joe] Montana–[John] Elway. He's just the only guy."
Mahomes himself even had to address claims that the Super Bowl last year was rigged for the Chiefs to win. As for the belief that games are rigged for the team and NFL referees are on their side, Burr offered a mild take.
"I don't think it's fixed. I think it's massaged," he said. "There's definitely more back rubs on one side than the other."
The Chiefs, Burr believes, have a fairytale of sorts behind their success in recent years, thanks in part to the visibility of tight end Travis Kelce and his relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift.
"Where is the money? Come on, man," Burr said. "They got all the stars. They got Taylor Swift. I mean, that's going to be a lot. It's a business. Why are they an entertainment league? Why aren't they a sports league?"
As for whether he'll be tuned in to the big game, Burr stated plainly he'll be busy that day. "I don't watch Chiefs games. It drives me insane," he added. "I think I'll live. I've watched like 50 of them. It's cool."
