Josh Brolin Reacts to One Big ‘Dune: Part Two’ Snub at the Oscars
Recently Josh Brolin threatened to quit acting altogether if his Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve wasn't nominated for Best Director at this year's Academy Awards. The Academy called his bluff.
The annual Oscar nominations were announced on Jan. 23 and Villeneuve's name was not included in the Director category. Brolin let his real thoughts fly via his personal Instagram. After congratulating the movie's production on nabbing Best Picture, Visual Effects, Sound, Productions Design, and Cinematography nominations, he shared comments on his missing director.
"Apparently, I'm going to quit acting because Denis Villeneuve didn't get nominated," he said. "This is just how this thing works. It makes no sense to me. That's okay. [Editor] Joe Walker and Denis, you deserve it. It's an amazing film. It was even better than the first one."

The actor offered well wishes to those who received nominations.
"The people who have gotten accolades sure deserve it. Happy to be a part of it. Congrats everyone," he shared.
Brolin has played the character Gurney Hillock in both of Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies and has been his director's champion for some time. It was just last year that he made his bold claim about quitting acting in an interview with Variety, if Villeneuve was passed over for his Dune directing a second time.

"If he doesn't get nominated this year, I'll quit acting," he said at the time. "It was a better movie than the first one. When I watched it, it felt like my brain was broken open. It's masterful, and Denis is one of our master filmmakers. If the Academy Awards have any meaning whatsoever, they'll recognize him.
Villeneuve will have another shot at obtaining a Best Director nomination, as he is currently working on the third movie in the sci-fi trilogy, Dune Messiah. Brolin is expected to be part of the cast.
