Raiders Recruit NFL Legend for 3-Year Coaching Gig
Tom Brady has appointed an NFL legend to coach the Las Vegas Raiders.
Sources told ESPN that Pete Carroll has signed a three-year coaching contract with a fourth-year team option. The 73-year-old Super Bowl champ is the fifth coach to join the Raiders in as many years since the team moved to Nevada from Oakland in 2020, and the ninth coach (including interims) since the death of veteran coach Al Davis in 2011. The hope is that Carroll will bring stability and expertise to a team which has wanted for leadership since changing locales.
Carroll has an iconic reputation within the industry, holding a career record of 181-131-1 and having been the winningest coach in Seattle Seahawks history. During his 14 seasons with the team, from 2010 until 2023, Carroll took them to a victory at Super Bowl XLVIII, two NFC titles, and 10 playoff appearances. He also previously served as head coach for the New York Jets’ 1994 season and the New England Patriots from 1997 until 1999.

In 2001, Carroll began a fruitful but controversial nine-year stint with USC. He took the team to seven consecutive PAC-10 title games and two national championships, but NCAA sanctions soon followed. Carroll left USC before the sanctions, joining the Seahawks soon after.
The New York Post reported that Brady, despite being only a five-percent stakeholder in Las Vegas, was instrumental in the decision to hire Carroll and personally spoke with owner Mark Davis about the decision. The Raiders are in desperate need of rehabilitation, having finished last in the AFC West with a 4-13 record including 10 consecutive losses, which is the team's longest dry spell in a decade. Since 2017, the team has had only one winning season.
