Scarlett Johansson Doesn't Mince Words About Colin Jost's Staten Island Ferry
Much ado has been made about the decommissioned Staten Island ferry that Colin Jost purchased with Pete Davidson for $280,000 in 2022, when he may or may not have been stoned. Jost's wife Scarlett Johansson seems like she's had the patience of a saint throughout the ordeal, but as expected, she revealed this week that she'd do anything to get rid of it.
During an appearance on Today With Jenna and Friends, Johansson was joined by Jost for the show's recurring "Great Debate" segment, in which two guests square off on a topic. For the final round, host Jenna Bush Hager threw the couple for a loop by asking them: "Staten Island ferry, good idea or bad idea?"
Johansson got to say her piece first. "All I can say is that if anybody out there would like to start a GoFundMe for the Staten Island ferry, please be my guest," she pleaded. "I don't know if I'm speaking for the Staten Island ferry or against it, but help our family, OK? This has now become a telethon for 'Support the Staten Island ferry.'"
However, when it was his turn to debate, Jost stood his ground.
"All I'll say is I hope you have a good thick pair of gloves at home, because someday you're going to be getting so many paper cuts from all the checks that start rolling in from this ferry," he assured his wife. "It is going to put food on our table, finally. I believe in this ferry, if anyone out there believes in it, please go to the GoFundMe."
"If we sell it for scrap metal, we could actually maybe—" Johansson interjected just before the buzzer sounded, to which Jost fired back, "That's what you need the gloves for? Handling the scrap metal?"
Bush Hager then came back with one final follow-up, asking whether the ferry can be taken away from the dock. "Could it be let loose to just drift? 100 percent," Jost quipped. "It's actually one of the things our insurers are worried about."
In all seriousness, it's still unclear what's going on with the ferry. Last September it served as the location for Tommy Hilfiger’s 2024 fashion show. However, at last word, Jost, Davidson, and their third co-investor, Paul Italia, were still throwing ideas at the wall, including possibly converting it into a hotel with restaurants.
