Bill Maher Admits His Taste in Women Isn’t ‘Age-Appropriate'
During an Oct. 20 appearance on The Skinny Confidential's Him & Her podcast, Bill Maher admitted that his dating habits are not “age-appropriate,” and he has a strong message for those who oppose him.
The 68-year-old Maher told hosts Michael Bosstick and Lauryn Evarts Bosstick that he’s “not looking” at the moment, and that his unavailability has made him more “attractive” to some women. "Nothing that I could have predicted when I was your age came to pass,” Maher said. “Like I would never have imagined that at this age, anyone—and again, like I'll say this just generally—my dating is not age-appropriate," he admitted.
The Real Time host immediately predicted he would face backlash for the revelation, but told detractors to cool their heels. "The people who are pissed off at that, f--k you,” Maher said. “You do you, I do me. You do what works for you."
Later on in the interview, Maher revealed why the institution of marriage isn’t for him. "I don't believe in it. It's not hinduism, there's no belief in it," he said of marriage. "It would ruin everything. I mean, I'm not going to,” he said. “I love to talk about this subject, but it's tough because I also don't really ever want to divulge the details of my own personal life."
The comedian came to the realization after spending too long searching for “the one” because he felt that’s what he was supposed to do. "It certainly was in my head for way too long, that you [have to] find the one, like it's an Easter egg hunt and you find the egg, and then everything's perfect," Maher said. "That's certainly not the way I've ever seen life work, and [it] didn't work for me."
New episodes of Real Time with Bill Maher air Fridays at 10 p.m. on HBO.
